With a cancer diagnosis comes many decisions, including where to go for treatment. At CMH, our patient-centered philosophy of care is at the core of our cancer treatment program, which began with a unique partnership with the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.
The OHSU Knight Cancer Institute is known worldwide for their contributions to the fight against cancer, and it is the only center in Oregon designated by the National Cancer Institute, an honor reserved for the top cancer centers in the U.S. The cancer treatment program at CMH was the first of its kind for OHSU in Oregon and it serves as a prime example of determination, innovation, and a commitment to delivering medical excellence to patients, without the miles. Together, our goal is bring the highest quality cancer care possible to those living in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington.
At the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative in Astoria, Oregon, you have the best of OHSU Knight Cancer and Columbia Memorial Hospital.
CMH is committed to supporting you through your cancer treatment journey—body, mind and spirit. As part of our integrated medicine approach to cancer care, we provide complementary therapies, including:
At the Cancer Collaborative, you will receive the same advanced cancer care and services, using the same state-of-the-art equipment and technologies provided by OHSU, without traveling long distances. Being able to fit radiation therapy into daily life means that you can maintain a better quality of life throughout your cancer treatment.
Our oncology team works with colleagues here and at OHSU to create targeted treatment plans. Your cancer treatment plan is tailored to you, your specific cancer, and your specific needs. No cancer is routine at the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative.
Treating cancer requires constant vigilance and careful balance by oncologists. With advanced imaging capabilities, including PET/CT, and a lab station at the CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative, it is easier for patients to get diagnostic tests completed in one visit. These tests allow oncologists to track the size of tumors and the overall health of a patient throughout treatment.
The Cancer Collaborative offers wrap-around services to provide education and support to you and your family during and after your treatment. These services include classes and support groups; reading material and products; integrative therapies to support your physical and emotional wellbeing; and caregivers who are dedicated to helping patients navigate the logistical, social, and financial aspects of cancer treatment.
CMH has been providing chemotherapy to patients since 2008, when the infusion center was two chairs in a hospital room. The infusion center in the new Cancer Collaborative can serve 12 people at a time. It has Columbia River views and room for your family and friends to visit during chemotherapy treatments. The friendly and compassionate infusion nurses will do all they can to ensure your comfort.
Community support and a healing environment are at the heart of the Cancer Collaborative. People are drawn together in front of a cozy fireplace and around puzzle tables. Spirits are lifted by the light and views from broad windows and the journeys offered in the artwork of 17 Northwest artists. Receiving cancer treatment at the Cancer Collaborative makes a difficult journey feel less daunting.
