ASTORIA, Ore. – Columbia Memorial Hospital named Zach Schmitt its new chief financial officer.
Schmitt joined the hospital’s administrative team in January 2018. He will work closely with Chief Executive Officer Erik Thorsen and a yet-to-be-named chief operations officer.
Schmitt, his wife and their two young sons have moved to the North Coast from Redbud, Ill. He grew up in Louisville, Ky., and received his bachelor’s in accounting from the University of Kentucky. From there he moved to the St. Louis area where he spent six years working at a 365-bed hospital while earning an MBA with a concentration in finance from St. Louis University.
“We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity at CMH presented to us. It was an easy decision to make and now we’re here,” he said. “CMH has already recognized tremendous growth and financial sustainability over the past couple of years. I want to build onto those prior successes and help CMH continue to grow and expand while improving patient satisfaction and financial stability.”
Prior to joining the CMH team, Schmitt was the chief financial officer for a critical access hospital. During his career in healthcare, he has had direct oversight of accounting, patient access, information technology, case management, materials management, facilities, and environmental services.
Schmitt and his family are settling in well. “Our experience so far has been nothing short of awesome,” he said. “Everybody at CMH has been extremely welcoming and helpful. It’s been great to get to meet everybody and have the opportunity to work with people who share the same passion in delivering exceptional healthcare.”
