Relay for Life recap

CMH team raises more than $7,800 for cancer research

By Leslie Claterbos, Pulmonology & Endocrinology Manager, and Emily Nicholson, Intern

Last weekend, CMH had the pleasure of participating and being a Platinum Sponsor for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life – Clatsop County. This event brings awareness to the many lives affected by cancer and raises money to give those struggling with the disease a second chance and to fund research to sweep cancer off its feet. CMH was more than determined to step into this event, fundraise and be a part of this program.

Our own Dr. Amrita Desai spoke about the incredible advancements made in the treatment of cancer through research funded by organizations like ACS. Scott Carlson, our General Surgery Clinic manager, was a fantastic sport, participating in the Mr. Relay contest on behalf of the CMH team.

Fundraising finished strong with total caregiver donations and sponsorship of $7,886.48, proving once again that CMH caregivers provide thoughtful support, along with a place to heal for our community. The CMH team had 26 amazing members and 37 incredible volunteers, racking up a total of 153 volunteer hours! In addition, at the CMH tent, 75 rocks were painted that will go to the CMH/OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative to be hidden in the gardens and bring smiles to patients when they find them.

A special thank you to all of you who took the time to volunteer, fundraise and organize this event. It was an honor and a privilege to spend time with each one of you.
