What medicines will you give my baby?

Your baby will receive their first vaccinations before leaving the hospital, and any other medicine needed. These may include:

  • Erythromycin ointment is an antibiotic ointment that is placed in baby’s eyes after birth. This prevents any infections that can cause blindness.
  • Vitamin K injection (shot) is given after birth because some babies don’t have enough in their bodies to prevent bleeding.
  • Hepatitis B vaccine helps protect baby from getting the Hepatitis B virus, which can hurt the liver.
  • Antibiotics if baby needs them. We will talk to you about this if necessary.
Masks continue to be required at CMH for patients, caregivers, and visitors.Learn More
