ASTORIA, Ore., 10/13/17 – Several hundred people gathered last night to celebrate what Columbia Memorial Hospital CEO Erik Thorsen called, “proof of the power of pioneering partnerships.”
With the help of the local medical community, donors, artists and craftspeople, local politicians, the CMH Board of Trustees, the CMH Foundation Board of Directors, Senator Betsy Johnson, and Jordan Schnitzer, Columbia Memorial Hospital and the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the thousands of people who worked to bring comprehensive cancer care to the North Oregon Coast.
Here are some words of note from some of the evenings’ speakers:
“We’re not waiting for a miracle cure to help our community, we’re doing it ourselves.” –Senator Betsy Johnson, Oregon Senate District 16
“You are the all the ones who made this happen… I want to congratulate you on what you have accomplished.” –Dr. Joe Robertson, OHSU President
“What we’re witnessing here tonight is a sense of community I have not felt since I left that small town [where he grew up].” –Dr. Joe Robertson, OHSU President
“I can’t wait to see what we’ll do together next.” –Dr. Joe Robertson, OHSU President
