Bob Hauer: 45 years at CMH

Laboratory caregiver celebrates milestone

Bob HauerBob Hauer grew up in Astoria working for his dad’s bike shop and then attended the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls for its medical technologist program. CMH was his second position (and likely last) as a medical technologist. His first was just two weeks at Tampa General after completing an externship there.

Bob became the first evening tech when there were four techs and one secretary/lab aide. He covered two facilities from 1974-78 when the current CMH building opened. Techs took call duty after hours and on weekends for his first 20 years at CMH.

Bob was interim Lab manager for a few stretches but preferred “working the bench,” recently spending most days in microbiology. His hobbies include riding motorcycles, sailing, photography and spending time with his grandkids.

Masks continue to be required at CMH for patients, caregivers, and visitors.Learn More
